February 4, 2007 13 members of the Eaton Fire Department obtained their Ice Rescue Certification over the weekend. The Eaton Fire Protection District has 7 bodies of water within its 64 square mile response region. It is this reason that it was decided upon to purchase Ice Rescue equipment. The specialized equipment purchased included misc. ropes, ice rescue suits, harnesses, and etc. Ice Rescue is a very methodical undertaking. It is obviously extremely dangerous without the proper instruction and training. Our team had a great time doing this. It was the department's first time for this type of training and a first for many of our members. The lead instuctor for our Ice Rescue class was Brian Beattie of Union Colony Fire Rescue. He is also a member of the Eaton Fire Protection District Board. Thanks Brian for all of your help! We appreciate all you do for the citizens of our fire district.

August 15, 2006 Eaton Fire lost one of it's best friends today. Freda Klingenberg was the wife of one of our long time members, Bud Blake who passed away in 1974. Since then, she had been involved with many events we've held. She was the original Eaton Fire Department dispatcher for many years. She prepared and served many meals for us at banquets and other functions in the community on behalf of Eaton Fire. She was a volunteer for misc. elections for many years, including elections for the Eaton Fire Protection District. She was a long time member of our EFD Auxiliary. We will miss her humor very much. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.

July 8, 2006 Our newly formed Color / Honor Guard Team recently participated in the Annual Eaton Days Parade here in Eaton, Colorado. Capt. Brent Walker, Chief Hugh Kane, Lt. Wayne Yanish, Lt. Trent Edelmon, FF Kevin Fields, FF Ron Alexander and Lt. Jerod Kilber all made up the Color Guard for this event. This was the first time that the team marched in the parade. We were joined by many of our regular firefighting members and their families with our engines and etc. Eaton Days is always a great time for our membership to spend some quality time with the citizens of our district. We look forward to next year already!

April 17, 2006 We recently responded to a very large hay stack fire. It was paged out at 13:38 hrs and we finally cleared at about 22:00 hrs on Monday, April 17th. We used many gallons of water to control this fire. It was started by burning a ditch to close to the hay stack. Wind was a big factor to keep this fire under control. We had structures very close to this event. Ault / Pierce Fire, Windsor / Severance Fire, Galeton Fire and Nunn Fire all assisted us at this event. We so appreciate our neighboring fire departments in our time of need. Thanks so much for being there for us when we call for help!

April 15, 2006 We had a great time with the community helping again at the annual 9 News Health Fair held here in Eaton. We have been doing this for many years. This year was a bit different for us. We now have many of our members who are IV Certified and able to take blood draws. Previously, all we were able to do at this event was take blood pressures and pulse rates (which we still do). We look forward to helping out again next year.

April 9, 2006 10 new recruits recently went through our departmental interview process. They are learning how to do their jobs with us by attending our New Recruit Fire Academy. Our Academy is a very big demand on their time. It will take place over the next two months. We have enjoyed teaching these important additions to our team. Thank you and your families for your dedication to the department and your community!

April 7, 2006 A Bell was installed on our Pierce Engine. It was purchased by some of our firefighters with money from their own pockets. It sure balances out the front of the engine. The bell is engraved with the names of members who were active when the engine went into service on April 3, 2005. The names of our EFD Chaplins and Eaton Fire Protection Board Members are also engraved on it.

December 22, 2005 Our new Pierce Engine now has our fire department's web site address on it. We had this new label made and put on the rear sides of our first due engine. This project has been in the works for the last year. We wanted to get this one just right. We hope that it will help with advertising our web site out in and out of the district. Obviously our intent is that it will help with our fire prevention efforts in the future.

December 18, 2005 We had our first annual EFD Christmas Party for members' children at the station. We started the night out with games and projects for the kids in the training room. From there, we went to the front office area and the kids got to see Santa (Santa came to the station in Engine 1). We all had a wonderful time with the kids and can't wait until next year to do it again! Special thanks to Dena Dowdy & Kim Walker for putting this all together for us. Also, thanks to the others who brought us goodies to eat at the festivities! Mmmmm Good!

December 10, 2005 Graduation of the Recruit Academy 2005-02 held in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

This article is written to brag a little bit about two of our team members here in Eaton. FF Ron Alexander and FF Justin Moinester recently graduated from the Northern Colorado Fire Consortium Academy. This fire academy is one of the most difficult to complete in the United States. They were 2 of 9 recruits who participated, and it took them approximately 4 months to finish. FF Alexander was hired by Union Colony Fire/Rescue Authority in Greeley, CO. FF Moinester was hired by Poudre Fire Authority in Fort Collins, CO. They will be starting their career within the next two weeks at a station yet to be determined in their districts. These two individuals are representative of what our fire department has been designed to deliver to the fire service. We are so proud of these two brothers of ours! Our congratulations go out to you and your families.

November 19, 2005 Congratulations to all of the Eaton Fire Department Service Award winners from our annual banquet held at the Eaton Country Club on the 19th of November.

Special Thanks to Lt. Jerod Kilber and his crew for the many hours of preparation to put this event into motion. Thanks to Chief Hugh Kane for being our Master of Ceremonies. Thanks to the Board Members of the Eaton Fire Protection District for sponsoring this annual event. Thanks also to the Eaton Country Club and its employees for all their work at the banquet. You did a great job! It was good to see the many retired firefighters and widowed retired firefighter wives who attended our 2005 EFD Annual Banquet on the 19th of November. Last, but certainly not least, we'd like to thank our wives and significant others who were present with us at this enjoyable evening. Your patience with us during the year with the many emergency calls, training and meetings we go to are very difficult to deal with at times. Eaton Fire couldn't survive without you. We hope you enjoyed the banquet and look forward to having you there again next year.

November 9 - 13, 2005 Four Eaton firefighters attended the FireRescue Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Captain Brent Walker, Lt. Trent Edelmon, FF Wayne Yanish and FF Justin Carroll trained with approximately 2000 other volunteer and career firefighters from all over the United States and Canada. These 4 EFD members attended fire training classes taught by the finest fire service instructors in the United States. Subject matter included fire behavior (flashover simulator),EMS, rope rescue, responding to terrorism events, fire ventilation, RIT, training and recruiting present and future firefighters and etc. The valueable information learned by these individuals will be used within our own department to train other Eaton firefighters. The Clark County Fire / Rescue and Henderson Fire / Rescue state of the art training centers were utilized in most of the hands-on firefighting education.

April 3, 2005 Our new Pierce Fire Engine was put into service at noon on April 3, 2005. Many hours of Driver / Operator training and fire and medical equipment preperation and placement went into putting the new engine into service. The old 2301 will now be designated 2302 and will be second engine out. "Click Here" to listen to Weld County Dispatch put our new pumper truck into service with an information page to the fire district on Fire B Channel.

February 8, 2005 Our new fire engine just arrived from Pierce Manufacturing. We drove it to Eaton from Appleton, Wisconsin. The 1,200 mile journey was a long one dealing with icy roads, wind and snow. Nothing like having white knucles and frayed nerves trying to get her back to our fire station in one piece! We will be featuring the new engine soon with photos and etc. Be sure to keep your eye on our web site for information coming soon.

December 15, 2004 We have the pleasure of introducing to you 7 new members to our team of men and women firefighters here at Eaton Fire. The past year we have been working to put together a Fire Chaplin team together. The duties of a Fire Chaplin range from counseling services for fire department members to being available to the victim / victim family members of fire, traffic accident or medical causes. Our new Fire Chaplins are full members of our department and are on call 24 hours a day just as any of our firefighters are. The new list of Fire Chaplins include:

November 30, 2004 The clarity, flexibility and dependability of modern, 800 MHz digital radio communications is now in use by the Eaton Fire Department. We have just purchased and put into service, 13 portable 800 MHz radios. These radios will replace our outmoded VHF system. The system was put into service in cooperation with Weld County Dispatch on Friday, November 6, 2004. The old VHF system will not be abandoned.....more >

June 12, 2004 Aims Community College recently held their Graduation Commencement Ceremonies at the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley, Colorado. At this event, two Eaton Firefighters, FF Jeremy T. Oxenford and PFF Justin W. Moon, graduated from Aims Community College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science Technology. Firefighter Oxenford made the Deans List and was awarded the David Goodale Memorial Award for Outstanding Fire Science Student. We are so proud to have these two young men on our fire department. These two firefighters are a good example of what this fire department is becoming. If you see them in the near future, please take the time to shake their hand and congratulate them on a job well done. Congratulations Jeremy and Justin from all of your team members here at the station.
We apologize for not haveing a picture of PFF Justin Moon. We will do our best to get one posted as soon as possible.

May 30, 2004 Eaton Firefighter Wayne Yanish and his daughter Jessica recently ran the 2004 Bolder Boulder 10K (6.2 mile) Road Race in Boulder, Colorado. FF Yanish ran it on behalf of the Eaton Fire Department. Wayne's preliminary finish time was 50:51 according to the Bolder Boulder time keepers. The Bolder Boulder is one of the largest road races in the United States. The road race attracts more than 48,000 runners, walkers and draws professional running athletes from all over the world to compete for one of the largest non-marathon prize purses in road racing. According to Firefighter Yanish, he had a great time running it and spending time with his daughter. She by the way, kicked his 44 year old butt in the Race! Maybe next year Wayne? .

May 27, 2004 We teamed up with the Eaton Elementary School for the 2nd Annual "Water Days" at the Eaton Park. We had a wonderful time with all the kiddos. Special Thanks to the Eaton Elementary School Students and Faculty for letting us spend the last day of school with you again this year. We can't wait until next year! Have a Very Safe and Enjoyable Summer Vacation.

May 15, 2004 We had Airlife out of Greeley come to train us on the proper ways to set up a landing zone and safely work around the helecopter. Some of our new fire personell had never trained on this subject and had a great time doing this type of training. We try to make this an annual event, but were unable to get a training scheduled last year. We look forward to haveing them come in again next year. Thanks to Airlife for coming out to Eaton to help us out!

May 08, 2004 We put on our annual Pancake Supper. This has always been a big event in Eaton for our community. We really had a good time working this event again this year. Last year, we were unable to do the Pancake Supper due to the Grand Opening Party held at the station. To have two large events in one year would have been a little too much for us to handle, so we decided to postpone this event into this years activity list. We served over 400 hungry people this year. Everyone in the town were pleased to have this event back again. We look forward to putting it on again next year. Thanks to everyone who showed up to help us out.

Our Congratulations to Eaton Firefighter, Jeremy Oxenford. Jeremy was voted on by his fellow firefighters as the 2003 Eaton Firefighter of the Year. At our November 22nd annual banquet, Jeremy received the award from EFPD Board President, Andy Morehead and fellow Board Member, John "Nick" Sheppard. Jeremy has been with us for several years now and is part of our part-time paid staff. He has been a wonderful addition to our team. His wife Leah joined our team one year ago and recently finished the Firefighter 1 program here in Eaton. Again, Congratulations Jeremy. You deserve this award!

Special Thanks to the many retired firefighters who attended our 2003 EFD Annual Banquet on the 22nd of November. It is always nice to sit and talk to you folks about old times and where the Fire Department is going in the future. We are proud of your past accomplishments and what you did to help make our department what it is today. You will always be a part of our team and we thank you for your past service to our community. We hope you enjoyed the banquet and look forward to having you there again next year.

We were recently visited by the students of Eaton Elementary School. The students got to see the new station, sit in the fire trucks and see how our equipment works as seen in this photo. We always enjoy showing off your fire department to the future generation firefighters growing up to be young men and women in our community. Thanks for coming to visit us!
On Oct. 20th at the Middle School, the Colorado Air National Guard, DEA, and the Denver Broncos cheerleaders arrived in the helicopter for the kick-off Red Ribbon Week. This wonderful program is for drug awareness and prevention. The Colorado Air National Guard team that came to Eaton for a visit in the helicopter, is assigned the task of working with the DEA and drug taskforces to patrol Colorado Looking for drug activity, Meth. Labs and Surveillance. Eaton Fire’s Job that day, was to support the Air National Guards Landing Zone, as requested by the them.
Eaton Fire is sponsoring a FF 1 Academy. New Cadets from our department and all over the area are taking part in this intense training. We are utilizing our new training center in East Eaton. We are very fortunate to have two very nice old homes to use for various fire training. We do not use any fire in these houses. We use a smoke generator to get the necessary effect of zero visability. We are very proud of our new Cadets and appreciate the many hours of training it takes to complete a course like this.
On May 22nd, the Eaton Fire Department and Eaton Elementary School joined up for the 1st Annual End of School Water Days in the Eaton Park. A great time was had by all. Different games and competition took place during this fun outdoor event. We can't wait until next year.
On April 8th we had an open house for our members and their families. Retired members and their families were invited to attend and take a look at the new station. A great time was had by all who attended! We had a very good turn out for this event. It was good to see old friends and meet new ones. It was fun showing off some of the new equipment we have purchased in the past year or so.
A new shoulder patch has been designed and completed for the Eaton Fire Protection District. We feel it fits our fire department and what it stands for. Efforts are now underway to get it sewn on our departmental uniforms and jackets. We are in the process of figuring out what the cost will be to anyone who would like to buy one. This patch is very high quality and will cost a bit more than an average FD patch. We would like your feedback on what you think of our new patch!
The Eaton Fire Department conducted Blood Pressures and Pulse Rates for the 9 News Health Fair on April 5, 2003. We do this every year for the citizens in and around the area. Many hours of work go into this event to help people with early detection of many health issues. It is also a good chance for people to meet our members one on one.
Five of our new members are training for their First Responder certification. This picture is of a realistic scenario to simulate a real life emergency situation. We are very pleased with the progress at which our team members are learning. They will be taking their final testing soon. Many hours of dedicated training goes into the certification process. Good Job guys!!
Training on the new Brush unit began on February 8th. Members trained on it's pump operation, foam system and driver training.
The EFD now has a new Brush Truck for extinguishing Grass Fires in our district. It is an F-350 Ford / 4 door pickup complete with a booster tank and pump. It has foam capability. Behind the Brush Unit is our new Air Trailer for filling SCBAs on the fire scene. Deputy Chief, Warren Milne spent many hours putting them together. We expect this new brush unit to be used quite a bit this upcoming fire season with the current drought in our region.
Firefighters Wayne Yanish and Jeremy Oxenford attended the Great Plains Wildfire College, Jan. 8th - 12th, in Sterling, CO. They attended classes on Advanced Firefighter Training (S-131, 8 class hrs.) and Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290, 32 class hrs.). This intense five day school will help the Eaton Fire Department get ready for an anticipated busy fire season this summer. We hope that someday we might be able to put together a wildland firefighting crew. This is the first year that Eaton Fire Department has done this type of training. Firefighter Oxenford and Firefighter Yanish have had some basic wildland fire suppression training in the past. Approximately 500 firefighters from all over the United States were updating their skills at this well run annual event.
The Eaton Fire Department responded to a rural barn fire on 1-2-03, south and west of town. The barn was totally involved upon arrival. Mutual aid was not needed on this call. The fire was extinguished quickly.
Congratulations to Firefighters Carl King, Mike Nelson, Jerod Kilber and Brian Parker. They successfully completed the FF 1 Academy in Loveland, CO recently. As some of you may know, it takes many hours of training and dedication to finish an Academy like this. A special thanks from the department goes out to their families for letting them do this for our community!
